# Editing and resizing an image

> Use the image editor to adjust the brightness, contrast, dimensions and file size of an image in your newsletter.

Hover over an image you have placed in your newsletter and click ‘Edit image’ or ‘Edit’ to open the image editor.

You can only edit PNG or JPEG images.

## Options in the image editor

On the left side of the editor, you will find a toolbar. Click an item to open the corresponding settings panel:

* ‘Adjust’: under ‘Basic’, you can adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation and gamma. Under ‘Details’, you can edit the brightness, shadows, highlights, exposure, blacks, whites, temperature and clarity.
* ‘Transform’: set the size and resolution, [rotate the image](/mijn-afbeelding-is-gedraaid-hoe-pas-ik-dit-aan) or crop it. Enter the width (w) and height (h) in pixels yourself, or choose one of the predefined ratios and sizes, including various social media formats.
* ‘Add text’: click the A icon to place text over your image. Adjust the font, size and colour, and set the alignment, background colour and line spacing. You can align text blocks and move them to the foreground or background.

* ‘Filters’: click the arrow to open the filters, choose a filter and set the intensity.
* ‘Focus’: blur part of your image or shift the focus using various quick options.
* ‘Frames’: place different types and colours of photo frames over your image.
* ‘Stickers’: place emoticons, images and shapes over your image. You can also set how transparent they are.
* ‘Brush’: choose the colour, hardness and size and draw freehand. Double-click a colour to enter the RGB or hex value.

## Saving and undoing changes

As long as you are working in the editor, you can undo your edits. Click ‘Save’ to place the edited image in your newsletter. You can still edit the image again afterwards, but you will no longer be able to undo your earlier changes.

If you want to start over completely, simply place the original image in the block again.

## Displaying an image smaller in your newsletter

Your image always fills the entire width of the image block, with small margins around it. If you want to display an image at a smaller size, use [the Columns block](/gebruik-van-kolommen-in-je-nieuwsbrief).

You can also increase the margins under Design → Block. If you do this, check the preview to make sure it still displays properly on a mobile phone.

## Reducing the file size of an image

The larger the image file, the longer it takes for the image to load for your subscribers. For this reason, it is best not to place images larger than 1 MB. You can reduce the file size by scaling the image.

Under ‘Transform’, select the ‘Keep Resolution’ option and reduce the width of the image. The height will scale automatically. For example, if you reduce an image from 3884 pixels wide to 900 pixels, the file size shrinks from 12.1 MB to around 270 kB.
