# When does automatic termination occur due to inactivity?

> If you do not use a free account for 600 days, Laposta will first send two warning emails before the account is permanently deleted.

Laposta deletes an account that has not been used for a very long time. This is mainly because, under privacy legislation (GDPR), Laposta is not permitted to continue processing personal data without a valid reason. If you wish to stop using Laposta yourself, read how you can [cancel your subscription](/abonnement-opzeggen) or [delete your account](/hoe-beeindig-ik-mijn-account).

Before Laposta deletes your account, you will first receive an email. This gives you the opportunity to prevent your account from being deleted. For a free account, this happens in three steps. Logging in at any point is enough to keep your account.

| Stage                                    | What happens                                                                                                           |
| ---------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| When you have not logged in for 600 days | You receive an email asking whether you want to keep the account.                                                      |
| 21 days later                            | You receive a second email with the same message.                                                                      |
| 14 days after that                       | If you have not logged in or responded, Laposta permanently deletes the account. You will receive an email about this. |

Once an account has been deleted in this way, Laposta cannot restore it either. Of course, you can always sign up for a free account at [account.laposta.org](https://account.laposta.org/).
