# Why does the formatting disappear when forwarding your newsletter?

> When someone forwards or replies to an email, the email client modifies the HTML code and part of the formatting is lost.

When a newsletter is forwarded or replied to, part of the design is often lost in the process: white space appears, colours change, fonts switch, or worse. This happens because the email client doing the forwarding or replying modifies the underlying HTML code. Nothing can be done about this, not even from within Laposta.

This is especially important when testing your design. If you send a testmail to yourself first and then forward it from your own email client to colleagues, they will see a version in which the formatting has already been altered. Therefore, send the [testmail](/kan-ik-van-mijn-nieuwsbrief-eerst-een-testmail-versturen) directly from Laposta to the people who are reviewing it. In step 4 of your campaign, you can send it to up to five recipients at once.

If you want your subscribers to be able to forward your newsletter while preserving the design, include a [mail-a-friend link](/hoe-kan-ik-mijn-nieuwsbrief-laten-doorsturen-door-mijn-relaties-aan-anderen) to the webversion.
