# Placing a phone number as a clickable link

> Put a tel: link behind a phone number, so recipients can call directly from your newsletter.

With a `tel:` link behind a phone number in a ‘Text’ block, your subscriber can call directly. When your subscriber clicks on the number, the device's phone app opens. This works on mobile devices and in many email clients.

Many email clients and mobile operating systems automatically turn a phone number into a clickable link, without you having to set up anything. You can read what that means for the display of your contact details and how you can deal with it in [Why a phone number or address is not visible in your newsletter](/waarom-is-het-telefoonnummer-of-adres-niet-zichtbaar-in-mijn-nieuwsbrief).

## Placing a tel: link in a text block

You create a `tel:` link in the same window as a regular link to a website, except you choose a different protocol.

#### Type and select the phone number

Type the text in your text block, for example: Call us on 06 12345678. Then select the phone number. You can also select the entire sentence, making the whole sentence clickable.

#### Open the link window

Above the text box, click the link icon (the chain link).

#### Enter the link

Under ‘Link Type’, choose ‘URL’ and under ‘Protocol’, choose ‘\<other>’. Under ‘URL’, enter the number as `tel:+31612345678`. Use the international format here: `+31`, followed by the number without the leading 0 and without spaces.

#### Save the link

Click ‘OK’.

## Placing the link in the source code

You can also place the link directly in the HTML code using the ‘Source’ button in a text block. Add `<a href="tel:+31612345678">06 12345678</a>` there.

The ‘Source’ button is intended for the text and links within the block, not for changing the structure of the block. You are responsible for any code you add yourself. The helpdesk does not repair manually added code. Read more in [Adding your own HTML code to your newsletter](/kan-ik-zelf-html-code-aan-mijn-nieuwsbrief-toevoegen).
