# Using the Share block in your newsletter

> Place buttons in your newsletter that allow recipients to share the webversion or a custom URL via platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp and LinkedIn.

With the ‘Share’ block, you can add share buttons to your newsletter. When a recipient clicks one of these buttons, they can share the webversion of your newsletter or a custom URL on their own timeline or in a message to people they know.

> **Note**
>
> With ‘Share’, recipients can spread your newsletter via social media. If you want subscribers to forward the newsletter by email, use the [mail-a-friend link](/hoe-kan-ik-mijn-nieuwsbrief-laten-doorsturen-door-mijn-relaties-aan-anderen). If you want to invite subscribers to [follow you on your own channels](/hoe-gebruik-ik-het-blok-sociale-media-in-de-drag-drop-editor), use the ‘Social media’ block.

## The share buttons in your newsletter

You choose which platforms appear in the block: Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Twitch, Bluesky and Mastodon. A label can appear below a button, such as ‘Tweet’ for X and ‘Share’ for Facebook and LinkedIn. Each button is automatically given the share link, so you do not need to create a separate URL for each platform yourself.

## Configuring the Share block

Drag ‘Share’ from the [list of blocks](/welke-inhoudsblokken-kan-ik-gebruiken-in-de-drag-drop-editor) into your newsletter, or click a block you have already placed.

### Content

1. On the ‘Content’ tab, under ‘What can be shared?’, select the webversion of this newsletter or a custom URL. In the preview, you can see what your subscribers will see.
2. Click ‘Add medium’ to add platforms.
3. Drag an icon using the arrow icon in front of it to another spot in the row, or click the cross to the right of the drop-down menu to delete it.

### Design

On the ‘Design’ tab, you can adjust the formatting using three buttons:

| Button | What you adjust |
| ------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Icons | The size of the icons and the formatting of the accompanying text |
| Box | The background colour of the block and the inner margins |
| Outside | The background colour around the block, the border around it and the outer margins |

Using the two screen icons at the top of the tab, you can save each setting separately for desktop and mobile. At the bottom of the tab, you can use ‘Hide this block on desktop’ or ‘Hide this block on mobile’ to deactivate the block in one of the two views.

### Settings

On the ‘Settings’ tab, choose the placement and position of the icons, whether text is included and which icon set you want to use. These options largely correspond to those of the ‘Social media’ block.

## Creating a separate block for a single share button

If you want to make sharing stand out extra, show a single medium and build your own block around it, for example within a ‘Columns’ block. For example, you can make such a block appear only on mobile, or on desktop as well. Check the result in the preview.
