# Creating a re-permission campaign

> Ask subscribers for consent again via a standalone edit form and save their choice in your list.

If you want to ask (some of) your subscribers for permission again, you can do so with a re-permission campaign. This is an email containing a link to an edit form, where your subscribers can tick a box themselves to indicate that they want to continue receiving your newsletter. You only need to ask the subscribers for whom you have not yet recorded this permission. You can read whether this is necessary in your situation in [When you need to ask subscribers for permission again](/moet-ik-mijn-relaties-opnieuw-om-toestemming-vragen). You can find the legal bases for processing and emailing subscribers in [Legal bases for processing and emailing subscribers](/grondslagen-voor-verwerking).

## Setting up and sending the campaign

#### Add a permission field to your list

Go to Subscribers → your list → Settings → Fields and click ‘Add new field’ below the table to keep track of who gives permission.

Configure the field as follows:

| Setting | Value |
| ------------- | --------------------- |
| Name of field | Permission |
| Type | Multiple choice |
| Options | Yes and No |
| Selectable | One option selectable |
| Display | Radio buttons |

Then click ‘Save’. You can read what the other properties of a field do under [creating extra fields](/hoe-maak-ik-extra-velden-aan-voor-mijn-lijst).

#### Set up the edit form

Your subscribers tick the new field in the [edit form](/waar-vind-ik-het-wijzigingsformulier). To set this up, go to Subscribers → your list → Enrich → Edit and click ‘Start’.

1. On the first page, adjust the texts and colours if desired. Then go to Step 2.
2. In Step 2, hide all fields from your list, except for the email address and the permission field. To do this, click on a field and click ‘Hide this field’ on the right.
3. Make the permission field required. You can still adjust the text above the field here, for example to ‘Would you like to continue receiving newsletters?’.
4. Click ‘Save and to Step 3’. In Step 3 and Step 4, adjust any texts or design if needed.

#### Create the campaign and link to the form

[Start a new campaign](/waar-start-ik-een-nieuwsbriefcampagne) and select the list you have just modified. In the campaign, briefly describe that you are asking for permission again to send newsletters in the context of the GDPR. In a clear and engaging piece of text, explain why you are asking for permission and what the benefits of your newsletter are.

Link from your email to the edit form in one of these two ways:

* As a link in the text: click a text box, select the text on the left behind which you want to place the link, click ‘Variables’ above it and choose ‘edit my data’.
* As a button: drag a button to the desired spot and adjust the text, for example to ‘I want to continue receiving newsletters’ or ‘Update preferences’. Enter `/tag/edit` for the link behind the button.

> **Tip**
>
> A clear button works better than a link in the body text.

#### Test and send the campaign

First send a testmail to yourself to see if everything is set up properly. Make sure your own email address is in the selected list. The edit link itself does not work in a preview or testmail. You can read how to check it in [Testing the edit link](/hoe-kan-ik-de-wijzigingslink-testen).

Once you have tested it, you can send the campaign. Bear in mind that a significant portion of your subscribers will not subscribe again. That is a pity, but the subscribers who remain are at least definitely interested in your message.

#### Repeat the campaign for those who have not yet responded

People receive many emails of this kind. If they do not respond, it does not always mean that they do not want to receive your newsletter. It is therefore a good idea to repeat the campaign once or twice for those who have not yet given permission.

1. Go to Subscribers → your list → Segment, create a new segment and choose [segmenting based on subscriber data](/hoe-segmenteer-ik-op-basis-van-relatiegegevens).
2. Select the permission field and set it to be equal to ‘No’. Then use ‘OR’ to add a second block in which you set that same field to empty, and save the segment. This second block is necessary because the field is still empty for subscribers who have not yet responded. Without this block, they will fall outside your segment.
3. Make a copy of your previous campaign and address it to this segment instead of the entire list in step 2. Go through the next steps and adjust the texts slightly if needed when filling in the content.

## Recording when someone has given permission

Under Subscribers → your list → Settings, you can enter an email address at which you [are kept informed of changes](/kan-ik-op-de-hoogte-worden-gesteld-van-elke-in-en-uitschrijving). If you save those emails, you can demonstrate later when someone gave permission.

In addition, Laposta keeps a [history](/houdt-laposta-van-elke-relatie-ook-statistieken-bij) for each subscriber, which also includes changes to their data. A change shortly after your campaign indicates the moment at which permission was given.

## Deleting subscribers without permission

If you have asked for permission but did not receive it, you must delete those subscribers at some point. Use the segment from step 5 for this. First check whether the segment contains both blocks: the subscribers who entered ‘No’ as well as the subscribers for whom the field is still empty. Otherwise, you will only delete the first group. Set the number of displayed subscribers to 500, tick all subscribers at once in the top left and delete them all at once using the button at the bottom of the list.
