# Which birthday variables are available for age and date?

> Automatically insert your subscriber's new age, date of birth or birthday using the seven extra variables.

With a birthday campaign, in addition to the standard [variables](/hoe-personaliseer-ik-mijn-nieuwsbrief) such as first name and gender, you have seven extra variables for the new age and the day of the birthday. You do not need to keep track of these values yourself: Laposta calculates them for each subscriber based on the date of birth in your list.

You can find the birthday variables when [creating the campaign](/hoe-maak-ik-een-verjaardagscampagne) in the editor in step 4, in the ‘Text’ and ‘Text with image’ blocks, under ‘Variables’.

## Which birthday variables are available?

The first five variables relate to the birthday itself. The last two are based on an email that arrives before the birthday and are therefore only useful if you [send the email a number of days early](/verstuur-ik-verjaardagsmails-altijd-op-de-verjaardag-zelf). Which variables you can use therefore depends on the delivery time you set in step 6.

The examples below are based on a subscriber who was born on 13 January 1994 and is celebrating his 23rd birthday on 13 January 2017. For the last two variables, he receives the email two days earlier, on 11 January 2017.

| Variable in the editor | What you put in your text | What your subscriber reads |
| ----------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Birthday: date of birth (13 January 1994) | You were born on `{{verjaardag-geboortedatum}}` | You were born on 13 January 1994 |
| Birthday: age (23) | Congratulations! You are now `{{verjaardag-nieuwe-leeftijd}}` | Congratulations! You are now 23 |
| Birthday: age (23rd) | You will receive a gift for your `{{verjaardag-nieuwe-leeftijd-rangorde}}` birthday | You will receive a gift for your 23rd birthday |
| Birthday: date (13 January 2017) | It is time to celebrate on `{{verjaardag-datum}}` | It is time to celebrate on 13 January 2017 |
| Birthday: day (13 January) | It is time to celebrate on `{{verjaardag-dag-maand}}` | It is time to celebrate on 13 January |
| Birthday: day (Friday) | It is your birthday this `{{verjaardag-weekdag}}` | It is your birthday this Friday |
| Birthday: number of days before | Your birthday is in `{{verjaardag-dagen-ervoor}}` days | Your birthday is in 2 days |

Two variables are both called ‘age’ and two are both called ‘day’. You can tell which of the two you need from the example in brackets.
