# How does newsletter delivery work at Laposta?

> What Laposta does to deliver your newsletter reliably and how fast it goes.

Laposta ensures that your newsletter arrives in your subscribers' inboxes and looks good in every email client, on desktop, tablet, and smartphone. In doing so, Laposta safeguards the sending reputation of its servers.

## Servers in the Netherlands

Laposta has a large capacity of servers in various data centres, all located in the Netherlands. These servers can easily take over from one another, so that delivery and registration always continue. Your newsletters are delivered to the receiving mail servers from [dozens of IP addresses](/wat-zijn-de-ip-adressen-van-de-mailservers-van-laposta).

## Securing your newsletter with SPF, DKIM, and TLS

Laposta uses SPF, DKIM, and TLS by default for sending emails. Using SPF and DKIM, your subscriber's mail server checks whether the newsletter really comes from you. TLS ensures that the email is encrypted in transit.

| Technique | What it does |
| --------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| SPF (Sender Policy Framework) | Your subscriber's mail server checks whether Laposta's mail server is authorised to send your newsletter. |
| DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) | Your subscriber's mail server checks whether Laposta's signature matches the signature of your newsletter. |
| TLS (Transport Layer Security) | The emails are sent encrypted if the receiving mail server supports this, which is usually the case. |

DKIM in particular is very effective: it prevents spammers from using forged sender addresses. TLS works on the same principle as 'https' on the internet.

If you also want to have your own domain co-sign with DKIM and DMARC, you can [authenticate your domain step by step](/stap-voor-stap-je-domein-authenticeren) with your domain provider.

## Monitoring the sending reputation

To maintain Laposta's sending reputation as well as your own, Laposta monitors every account and every list. The content and results of newsletters are also critically assessed. Spam-sensitive practices, such as adding an attachment to your newsletter, are not allowed. In addition, you must always confirm a [sender address](/wat-is-een-afzendadres) first.

> **Note**
>
> Subscribers that result in a hard bounce are automatically cleaned in the corresponding list: they are moved to the ‘cleaned’ tab and you can no longer email them. The same happens with subscribers that result in a soft bounce for six consecutive newsletters.

## Sending speed of your newsletter

On average, you can count on a sending speed of around 400,000 emails per hour. A list with 20,000 subscribers is therefore sent in about 3 minutes.

The exact speed varies per campaign due to two factors:

* The receiving mail servers communicate their preferences during delivery. There are almost always limits to the number of emails that may be offered within a certain period, or to the number of simultaneous connections. For good delivery ('deliverability'), Laposta adheres to these instructions. Because the receiving mail servers differ per list, the delivery speed varies as well.
* The load on Laposta's servers also plays a role. If several larger campaigns are sent at the same time, this may slightly reduce the speed.

In two cases, delivery proceeds differently. If your website cannot handle the peak in traffic, the helpdesk can [delay the delivery for you](/vertraagd-versturen). And if your mailcredits run out during delivery, the campaign stops and [you can still send the rest afterwards](/te-weinig-credits-zo-verstuur-je-de-rest-van-je-campagne).
