# Why is it better not to put a table in your newsletter?

> Create a schedule or overview using a list or the Columns block, so your newsletter remains easy to read in every email client and on mobile.

Many email clients cannot display a table inside a text box properly. Often, the width of the columns changes, a different font is used, or the alignment is no longer right. Things usually go wrong on a mobile phone as well.

A table is a logical choice for something like an agenda, just as you would make in a Word document, but it is better not to place such a table in your newsletter. Instead, choose one of these solutions, which are always displayed properly:

| Alternative | What it is suitable for |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| A bulleted list | A short row of items one below the other, for example an agenda with time and subject on a single line |
| A ‘Columns’ block | A true column layout: the time on the left, the agenda item on the right |
| A custom list using columns | A list where you choose the bullet symbol yourself, for example an arrow |

## Using a bulleted list

Select a ‘Text’ block, put each agenda item on its own line, and turn those lines into a list.

A numbered list is also possible, but it is not always displayed properly in email clients such as Outlook. Always check it in a [testmail](/kan-ik-van-mijn-nieuwsbrief-eerst-een-testmail-versturen) first.

## Recreating a table using columns

With the ‘Columns’ block, you can place a separate text block on the left and right. This is only possible if you build your campaign in the drag & drop editor. Read more about [using columns in your newsletter](/gebruik-van-kolommen-in-je-nieuwsbrief). You first format one agenda item and then copy it for the following items.

#### Place a Columns block

Drag a ‘Columns’ block into your newsletter for the first line of your agenda.

#### Fill the left column

Drag a ‘Text’ block into the left column and enter the time, for example. Under ‘Design’, you can remove the title of the block and adjust the margins if you wish.

#### Fill the right column

Copy the text block to the right column, or drag a new ‘Text’ block into it. Type the agenda item there.

#### Adjust the column width

Select the column border in your newsletter and drag it to the left or right. While doing so, check the [display on a mobile phone](/opmaak-voor-desktop-of-mobiele-weergave).

#### Copy the columns block for each agenda item

Once the settings are right, copy the entire columns block and only change the texts on the left and right in the copy. If you like, give the next columns block a different background colour to distinguish agenda items from one another.

> **Warning**
>
> Use a new columns block for each agenda item. If you place a single text block with all the times on the left and a single text block with all the items on the right, those two blocks will be placed one below the other on a mobile phone, making the agenda impossible to follow.

In the same way, you can also create other overviews, such as an events calendar with the date on the left and the details on the right for each event.

## Creating a custom list using columns

If you are not happy with how the standard bullet points are displayed, you can use the ‘Columns’ block to create your own list:

#### Place a Columns block

Drag a ‘Columns’ block into your newsletter.

#### Choose an image as a bullet point

Drag an ‘Image’ block into the left column and select an image from your computer, for example an arrow.

#### Add the text

Drag a ‘Text’ block into the right column, edit or remove the title, and type your text.

#### Copy the columns block

Check the width of the columns, the layout, the margins, and the display on desktop and mobile. Then copy the entire columns block for the next item and only change the text.

> **Note**
>
> All of these solutions rely on formatting. In the [plain-text version](/kan-ik-met-laposta-ook-platte-tekst-versturen) that Laposta automatically sends along, nothing of the columns and bullet points remains.
