# Creating a read-more link in your newsletter

> Keep your newsletter brief by placing an intro for each topic and linking to the full text on your website.

If you have a lot of information for a single newsletter, you roughly have two options: put everything in the email, or include a short introduction for each topic with a link to the full text. You can easily add such a link to any text box.

## Putting everything in the newsletter

If you put all the information in your newsletter, it will become (very) long. If the length is reasonable, you can easily leave it as it is. Because of mobile use, people are used to scrolling vertically. However, do bear in mind that long newsletters can be [clipped by Gmail](/waarom-breekt-gmail-mijn-nieuwsbrief-af).

## Referring with a 'Read more' link

Include a short summary or introduction in your newsletter for each major topic. End the text box with a 'Read more' link to the full text on your website or intranet. You can read how to do this in the editor in [Placing a link in your newsletter](/hoe-plaats-ik-een-link-in-mijn-nieuwsbrief).

Choose a link text that is descriptive in itself, for example 'Read more about the general meeting' instead of a plain 'Read more'. That way, your reader knows where the link leads and you do not have to write out the URL in full in the text. You can read why it is better not to do this in [Do not use literal links](/gebruik-geen-letterlijke-links).

If you do not want third parties to be able to read the full text on your website, place that information on a protected web page.

### Referring to a web page or a file

You can also link to a file containing the full text, although this is less common. Your subscribers usually need one extra click to view a file. Moreover, having the text on your website attracts visitors to your site, and it is useful to keep the barrier to visiting as low as possible. While reading, your subscribers might click around a bit further, and they will find their way back more easily next time.
