# Sending a testmail

> Check the layout and content of your newsletter in a real email client before sending it for real.

Unlike [the preview](/kan-ik-van-mijn-nieuwsbrief-een-preview-zien), which displays your newsletter in your browser, a testmail actually arrives in an inbox. This allows you to see how an email client renders your layout.

Click ‘Testmail’ at the top of [step 4](/stap-4-vul-het-sjabloon) to send a test version without having to finalise the campaign. You can enter a maximum of five addresses at a time, for example your own, those of close colleagues and friends.

In step 4, you can send a testmail and edit your newsletter as many times as you like until the content and design are to your liking. Only when you are satisfied do you proceed to [step 5](/stap-5-laatste-controle) and step 6 to schedule the newsletter for all your subscribers. In step 5, Laposta also automatically checks [whether all links are working properly](/zijn-alle-links-in-orde).

## The difference between test addresses and separate email addresses

When you click ‘Testmail’, the ‘Send a testmail’ window gives you two ways to specify where the testmail should go:

| Method | What the testmail shows |
| -------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Ticking test addresses from the list(s) of this campaign | The correct subscriber data, such as the salutation and the first or last name. With a personalised newsletter, you can immediately see whether this data is displayed properly. |
| Typing in separate email addresses | Only the newsletter itself. These addresses are not linked to a list, so no subscriber data can be shown in the email. |

Therefore, it is preferable to use test addresses from the linked list(s).

## Setting up a test address

You set up test addresses under your subscribers, not in your campaign. You can turn any subscriber in your list(s) into a test address:

1. Go to Subscribers → your list → ‘Browse’ and [open the subscriber](/hoe-pas-ik-de-relatiegegevens-van-een-enkele-relatie-aan).
2. Under ‘Details’, tick the box to allow this address to be used for testing campaigns.
3. Click ‘Save’.

If you add a new subscriber manually, you can tick this box straight away. It is useful to add at least your own email address to a list as a test address.
