# Pausing an automation for a fixed time

> With the Pause block, you can configure how many minutes, hours, days or weeks your automation waits before the next step.

With the ‘Pause’ action, you can set a fixed waiting time before your automation continues to the next step.

Enter a number and select the unit of time, such as minutes, hours or days. If you want the automation to continue in two weeks, enter 2 and select ‘weeks’ from the list.

The pause only applies to the subscriber who has reached this action at that moment. For other subscribers, the automation simply continues to run in the meantime.

If you do not want to wait for a fixed time, but until something happens, use [the Wait until... action](/wacht-tot).

> **Note**
>
> Turning the entire automation on or off is different from using this action. You can do that in the overview of your automations, see [Activating or pausing an automation](/het-activeren-of-pauzeren-van-een-automation).
