# Starting an automation on a subscription

> Configure for which list and source your automation starts upon a new sign-up.

With the ‘Subscribe’ starting point, your automation starts as soon as there is a new subscription.

## Choosing a list

Choose which list the subscription must be made to. You can also select ‘Any list’. It then does not matter which list someone subscribes to.

## Determining the source

New subscribers can be added to a list in various ways. Here, you can choose how these new subscribers signed up:

| Source | What it means |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Anywhere | The source does not matter. |
| This application | The subscription only counts if it is made within Laposta. |
| Outside application (form) | The subscription only counts if it is made outside Laposta, i.e. via an external subscribeform. |
| Via API | The subscription only counts if it is made via [the API](/wat-is-een-api). |

Below this is the ‘Ignore subscribers from an import’ checkbox. If you leave this ticked, the automation will not start for subscribers that you import, only for individual subscriptions.

## Running once or multiple times

Under ‘Executes’, you can choose between ‘Once’ and ‘Multiple times’. By default, this is set to ‘Once’, so subscribers do not accidentally receive the same emails twice. If you set the field to ‘Multiple times’, the automation will start again as soon as a subscriber subscribes again.
