# Starting an automation when a field changes

> Configure for which list, which field and which source a change starts your automation.

With this starting point, the automation begins as soon as a subscriber's field changes, for example when the ‘Purchase made’ field is changed to ‘Yes’.

## Which list?

Choose the list in which the change must occur. If you select ‘Any list’, it does not matter in which list the change takes place.

## Which field?

Choose which field this applies to. If you select ‘Any field’, it does not matter which field changes.

If you select a specific field, you can then specify whether any change to this field should start the automation, or only a change to a specific value.

## Where does the change come from?

A change in a list can happen in several ways. You can specify how the change must have been made:

| Source | What it means |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Anywhere | Source does not matter |
| This application | The change only counts if it is made within the Laposta application |
| Outside application (form) | The change only counts if it was made outside the Laposta application, i.e. via an external edit form |
| Via API | The change only counts if it is made via [the API](/wat-is-een-api) |

## Multiple times or once?

In the ‘Executes’ field, you can choose between ‘Once’ and ‘Multiple times’. By default, this is set to ‘Once’. If you set this to ‘Multiple times’, the automation will start every time this change takes place.
