# Sending a birthday email a few days early

> In step 6 of your birthday campaign, choose the start date, the time and the number of days in advance.

A birthday email does not have to arrive on the day itself. Sending it a few days early can be more convenient, for example if you offer your subscriber a discount or a small gift in your shop that will come in handy on their actual birthday.

You can set this up in [Step 6: Setting the send time](/stap-6-bepaal-verzendtijdstip) of your [birthday campaign](/hoe-maak-ik-een-verjaardagscampagne). First, you choose the start date and the time of day, and then whether you want to send the email on the birthday itself or a number of days before.

If you send the email a few days early, you can use the [birthday variables](/hoe-personaliseer-ik-mijn-verjaardagscampagne) in your text for the day of the week and the number of days before.
