# What is an API and how can you use it for integrations?

> Automatically exchange data between Laposta and your own software, such as a CMS, CRM or webshop.

An API (application programming interface) is the connection that allows your own software to communicate directly with Laposta. The integration works behind the scenes: data is automatically sent back and forth, without anyone having to retype or export it.

Examples of what you can do with such an integration:

| Integration with                   | What happens                                                                                                                                     |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Your website or webshop            | The email address of someone who places an order is automatically added to a list                                                                |
| Your CMS or CRM                    | Subscriptions and unsubscribes in Laposta are processed in your own system, and changes in your contact management system are updated in Laposta |
| Your own system as a sending point | You can create, populate and send a campaign from your CMS without having to log in to Laposta                                                   |

The API is intended for developers. Without programming experience, you cannot use it yourself, but you can set up integrations without any coding via an automation platform such as [Zapier](/voorbereide-koppelingen-via-zapier).
