# Which subscriber details can you choose?

> Besides the required email address, you can import all relevant data for personalisation, segmentation and a birthday email.

To add a subscriber to your list, you need at least an email address. You can also add any other details you have about someone: first and last name, name prefix, date of birth, and personal preferences.

Which details are useful for you depends on what you send. For example, a travel agency could add the favourite holiday destination, and an insurance company could add the type of car and registration number.

It is best to add these extra details straight away during your first import. You can also add them later by importing an Excel file containing these details over your existing subscribers.

## What can you use extra details for?

* [Personalising](/hoe-personaliseer-ik-mijn-nieuwsbrief). This allows you to include the first name in the salutation (Dear John), for example, and automatically mention their favourite holiday destination or registration number further down.
* [Segmenting](/hoe-segmenteer-ik-op-basis-van-relatiegegevens). You can send a targeted newsletter to a specific part of your list, for example only to women, to residents of North Holland, or to subscribers who have entered hockey as their favourite sport.
* [Birthday email](/hoe-maak-ik-een-verjaardagscampagne). Send your subscribers a message for their birthday based on their date of birth.
