# Editing a field value in an automation

> With the ‘Edit’ block, you can automatically edit a field of a subscriber in an automation.

Drag the ‘Change’ action to the place in your automation where a subscriber's field needs to be given a different value. As soon as the subscriber reaches the block, the field is updated.

You enter three settings for this action:

| Setting    | What you choose                                                                                                     |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| List       | Select the list from the drop-down menu that the subscriber must come from.                                         |
| Field      | Select the [field](/hoe-maak-ik-extra-velden-aan-voor-mijn-lijst) from the drop-down menu that needs to be changed. |
| Changes to | Type the new value that the field will receive in the input box.                                                    |

Depending on [the starting point](/de-startmomenten-van-een-automation), a subscriber in an automation can come from different lists. If the subscriber comes from a list other than the list you have selected here, this action will be ignored. If you want to change a field for multiple lists, place a separate action for each list.

If you want a subscriber to be able to edit their own details, do not use this action, but use the edit form of [profile enrichment](/wat-is-profielverrijking) instead. You can read more about placing and ordering actions in [Start your first automation](/hoe-maak-ik-een-automation).
