Can I resend the confirmation email?
If you are using double opt-in, each subscriber will receive a confirmation email before they are subscribed. The subscriber will only be added to your active list after clicking the link in the confirmation email.
If the subscriber has not (yet) clicked on the link in the confirmation email, the email ends up under the tab 'unconfirmed'. Over time, the number of unconfirmed subscribers will increase, because a part of the subscriptions is not confirmed.
Having to 'lose' these subscribers is of course a pity, and the obvious thing to do would be to send the addresses under the unconfirmed tab another confirmation email. However, this is not a good idea, because the confirmation email is meant as an extra step in the subscription process, which gives the subscriber the freedom to decide not to continue subscribing after all.
It is also possible that the confirmation email is ignored because the subscription was made by someone else. It also happens that spambots automatically add email addresses, which are not confirmed later on.
In such situations, resending the confirmation email is undesirable and therefore not possible within our programme. Unfortunately, when using double opt-in, losing some of the subscriptions cannot be avoided.
If you prefer a different approach, we advise you to use single opt-in instead of double opt-in. The use of double opt-in is not compulsory in the Netherlands (not even under the GDPR). With single opt-in, all subscriptions are active immediately, and because subscribers can unsubscribe with every newsletter (via the compulsory unsubscribe link), it's not a big deal if there is an occasional incorrect subscription.
