Overloaded website, delayed delivery
Sending a large campaign may cause an overload on your website. You can read here why this occurs, and how to prevent it.
Most newsletters contain links to websites. These links are (hopefully) clicked on by those who read your newsletter. This way, your newsletter creates more visits to your website. Because people click the link at different times, the visits are spread out, and there shouldn't be any trouble.
However, there is a way in which links can be troublesome. To prevent employees from being exposed to spam and phishing, many organisations use automatic filters. These filters check all incoming emails. In this check, all links in all emails are followed through, to see if the websites they direct to are secure.
As sending a campaign happens very quickly (thousands of emails per minute), the requests from these filters to access the links can also happen rapidly. Not every website can withstand thousands of clicks in a few minutes. It can cause the website to be slow, or even to completely freeze.
