How do I add a large number of new subscribers to my list?
You can add, edit, or delete a large number of subscribers to or from your list using an Excel file. This can be done in the tab of the relevant list (Subscribers → View → Add), or on the page Subscribers by clicking Add subscribers for the relevant list.
The quickest way to expand your subscriber list is by importing an Excel file. Aside from email addresses, this Excel file may contain other subscriber data (such as first and last name, gender, age, residence and phone number). The Excel file you want to import should end with .xls, .xlsx, or .csv.
Additional subscriber data is useful to personalise and/or segment your list.
Import your file
Importing an Excel file is done in four small steps ( you can read more about those here):
- Step 1: select file (1/4)
- Step 2: select actions (2/4)
- Step 3: select columns (3/4)
- Step 4: results (4/4)
In Step 1, you select the Excel file on your computer. In Step 2, you indicate if you want to add new subscribers to your Laposta list, and/or edit the subscriber data of current subscribers in your Laposta list, and/or if you want to delete subscribers from your list that are no longer in the Excel file.
In Step 3, you can indicate for each column in your Excel file if you want to import the data and if so, in what field the imported data should be entered into in your Laposta list. In Step 4, you can see the results of your import.
To be clear: you can choose to add only the new subscribers. It is easier to import all of your subscribers. That is because subscribers that are already active in your list, or those who have unsubscribed or led to hard bounce, are automatically deduplicated by Laposta. In other words, Laposta automatically only adds the new subscribers.
This means you do not have to make a new list and import all of your subscribers for each newsletter. This would be a lot of extra effort for you. The total number of active subscribers would be unnecessarily high, which may land you in a higher tariff group. More importantly: your chances of (accidentally) sending another newsletter to your unsubscribed and bounced subscribers would highly increase.
Our motto is: always work with the same list(s).
Mutations in your Excel file
Sometimes, you want to update a subscriber list by adding new subscribers, and deleting others. For instance, if you want to import a membership file in which new members have been added, and former members deleted. When you import an Excel file into your subscriber list, you can select the options Add new subscribers and Delete subscribers. With that:
- subscribers that do not appear your Laposta list, but are in your Excel file, will be added to your list in Laposta
- subscribers that appear in your Laposta list, but are not in your Excel file, will be deleted from your list in Laposta and moved to the Unsubscribed tab.
Additionally, you can select Edit current subscribers. With that, the data that is in your Laposta list is overwritten or (if the field is empty) filled out with the subscriber data in your Excel list.
