How do I personalise the content of my newsletter?
Personalise: use subscriber variables
In the text field of the editor, you can personalise your text. You can use any field in your subscriber list(s). To do this, click the 'Subscriber variables' button above the text field. After you send your newsletter, the corresponding value is automatically included in your subscriber's newsletter.
If no value is known for a subscriber, your newsletter will display the default value. If there is no default value, your newsletter will not display any value.
On the page Subscribers → Settings →Fields, you can add a subscriber variable (field) to your list, and enter a default value.
Personalise: specify default value subscriber variable
You can specify the subscriber variable default value in the editor. Create a specification by placing a comma after the subscriber variable and adding a new value. For example: {{first name, user}}. This new value overrides your list(s) default value.
Using a comma thus overrules the default value. This specification can be useful if you want to include the same subscriber variable several times in your newsletter, and you do not want the same default value to appear each time.
Personalising: An Example
Suppose you have the field (subscriber variable) 'First name' in your list. You want to include this subscriber variable in your newsletter. When you create your newsletter, the subscriber variable First name is displayed in the editor. If you click on it, the editor will show: {{first name}}.
After sending your newsletter, your subscriber will automatically see the correct value of each subscriber variable. Jacob Jennings will then see the following at the top of his newsletter: Dear Jacob. If no value (no first name) is known, Laposta will include the default value in your newsletter. If the default value is 'customer', Jacob will read: Dear customer. If there is no default value, Jacob will read only: Dear .
If you have specified the subscriber variable in your newsletter to {{first name, user}} in the editor, your subscriber will also automatically see the correct value of each subscriber variable in your newsletter. Sarah Smith will then read the following in her newsletter: Dear Sarah. If no value (first name) is known, Sarah will read (whether there is a default value or not): Dear user.
When you create a birthday campaign, there are seven special birthday variables: read more about those here.
