How do I personalise my birthday campaign?

In a birthday email, of course you want to mention your subscriber's (new) age, or the date of their birthday.

Seven special subscriber variables

Aside from the normal subscriber variables (such as first name and gender), seven extra subscriber variables are available for birthday campaigns. When creating a birthday campaign, you will find these in the editor in Step 4 in the blocks 'Text' and 'Text with picture' blocks under Subscriber variables. You can use these to personalise your birthday email.

Seven examples

Below is a list of each of the seven birthday subscriber variables:

1. The name of the variable in the editor
   1. How this variable is mentioned in the layout of your newsletter, and
   2. How your subscriber will eventually read this variable in their newsletter

The example uses a subscriber who was born on the 13th of January 1994. In the variables 1 to 5 this subscriber receives the newsletter on their 23rd birthday, on the 13th of January 2017. In the example of variables 6 and 7, this subscriber receives the newsletter two days before their birthday, on the 11th of January 2017. 

The seven birthday subscriber variables are:

1. Birthday: date of birth (13th of January 1994)
   1. You were born on {{birthday-date of birth}}.
   2. You were born on the 13th of January 1994.
2. Birthday: age (23)
   1. Happy Birthday! You are now {{birthday-new-age}}.
   2. Happy Birthday! You are now 23.
3. Birthday: age (23rd)
   1. You will receive a gift for your {{birthday-new-age-grade}} birthday.
   2. You will receive a gift for your 23rd birthday.
4. Birthday: date (13th of January 2017)
   1. On {{birthday-date}} there will be a party.
   2. On the 13th January 2017 there will be a party.
5. Birthday: day (13th of January)
   1. It's a party the {{birthday-day-month}}.
   2. It's a party on the 13th of January.
6. Birthday: day (Tuesday)
   1. Next {{birthday-weekday}}, it's your birthday.
   2. Next Tuesday, it's your birthday.
7. Birthday: number of days before
   1. Your birthday is in {{birthday-days-before}}.
   2. You birthday is in two days.
