Accessibility of newsletters
What does accessibility mean?
The internet is not only used by people without any sensory impairments. People with disabilities also visit web pages, use mobile phones and read emails. They also need to be able to access the information offered. The extent to which this is possible determines the 'accessibility' of the information.
During the rise of the Internet, not much attention was paid to accessibility. But over the last ten years, awareness has grown that it is important to present content in such a way that people with a functional impairment can also use it. These include the elderly with impaired vision, the blind, the visually impaired, but also, for example, the deaf and hard of hearing and people with limited hand function or limited reading skills.
Can a newsletter be made accessible?
Yes, it certainly can! A newsletter can be made perfectly accessible. We distinguish three areas of interest:
- Code: the structure of the (HTML) code of the newsletter;
- Design: the use of colours, font size, and images;
- Content: subject line, texts.
