Using columns in your newsletter

Columns can be a great help for the layout and design of your newsletter.

Adding a column block

To add a column block, first click on the exterior of your newsletter. Next, drag the column block to the correct position in your newsletter. You can then drag other blocks, such as Text, Image, Movie, Title Line and Divider into the columns of your column block.

Two, three, or four columns

The column block can contain two, three, or four columns. To set adjust the number of columns, first click the column block in your newsletter. Next, select the cogwheel icon in the green vertical bar that appears on the left side of the block. The Columns tab will show on the left side of the screen. Click Columns → Settings and select the preferred amount of columns under 'Number of columns'; keep in mind that your options are 2, 3, and 4 columns.

Design and display of a column block

Under the tab Columns → Design → Block, you can adjust your layout for mobile and desktop display. You always start with the desktop display. With the 'Block' button, you can change the background colour and margins of the whole block, and for each column individually. Using the 'Outside' button, you can adjust the margins and background colour for the newsletter's exterior.

You can change the width of each column by placing your cursor on the divide between columns and dragging it to the left or right.

In mobile display, columns are shown underneath each other by default. For example, if you have inserted an image into the left column and a text in the right column, the image will be displayed above the text in mobile display. Both the image and the text will be displayed over the full width of the newsletter.

If you want to avoid this, you can select 'Do not stack, show like on desktop' button in the mobile tab for the Design page of the Column block. If you do not want to show the column block in the mobile display, click 'Hide this block on mobile' in the same

Unfortunately, the height of the columns cannot be completely fixed. The reason for this is that the various email clients take up (a little) more or less space when displaying text.

Moving, copying, and deleting a column block

If you want to move, copy, or delete a block, first click the column block. You will see four icons in the green bar that appears on the left side of the block:

  • the arrow lets you drag the entire block to different position (higher/lower) in the newsletter;
  • adjust the block's settings with the cogwheel (as described above);
  • click the double square to copy the column block;
  • click the 'x' to delete the entire column block. All blocks within the columns will be deleted as well.

The icons in the grey bar are for moving, copying, and deleting blocks within the column block.
