What is the preheader?

The preheader is the top, fixed block in your newsletter. You can change the text and design of the preheader to your liking. The preheader consists of two columns:

  • You can enter your own text in the left column; this is supposed to be one concise sentence about your newsletter.
  • The right column contains a link to the web version (you can edit this as well).

Designing the preheader

You can chance various aspects of your preheader's design. To do so, go to the Design tab on the left side of the screen. Under 'Block', you can indicate if you want to show a background colour, and what inner margins you want to use. Finally, you can change the outer margin and outside background colour under Exterior.

Mobile display

By default, the preheader is not displayed on mobile phone. There are reasons for this:

  • A smartphone screen is smaller, and it is better to start with the 'real' content immediately.
  • You do not need a link to the web version in the mobile display, because most email clients display the newsletter just as good as the web version, including the images.

You can show the preheader in the mobile display by unchecking the 'Hide this block on mobile' in the Exterior tab.

Hiding the preheader

If you would prefer to completely refrain from showing the preheader, you can click the block and head to 'Settings' on the left side of the screen. If you choose this option, we recommend that you delete any text you had in the preheader, as Gmail might still show the preheader when it trims the email.
