Can I insert a mailto link in my newsletter?
Yes. To insert an email address in your newsletter, proceed as follows:
- Go to Step 4 in your newsletter campaign.
- Go to the editor.
- Place your cursor where you want the email address to be.
- At the top of the editor page, click on the chainlink symbol to insert/modify a link.
- Under Link Type, select Email
- Enter your email address
Here you can also enter the subject and (part of) the reply to the message, if you wish. For example, like this:
Message subject: Notice of members' meeting
Message Body: Dear John, I am emailing you to let you know that I will be attending the membership meeting next Monday. Best regards
Unfortunately Laposta cannot measure the number of clicks on a mailto link. A mailto link opens a mail programme on the computer of your subscriber. Laposta is not a part of this process. (We can allow normal links to pass through our servers, but not mailto links).
To be clear: your subscribers can also 'just' reply to a newsletter. When creating a campaign, you can indicate in Step 1 which reply address you want to use for this purpose.
Finally, you should take into account that the message cannot be extremely long when using a mailto link. Different email clients (of your subscribers) have different limits; most of them are very generous, but for Outlook this limit is somewhere around 600 characters.
If you exceed these 600 characters, your message will not be displayed (and a Google page will be shown instead of your message). If you cannot or do not want to shorten your text for a mailto link, it is best to refer to a web page that contains a form for your subscribers to fill in.
