Why are images not always immediately visible in newsletters?

In a number of email clients, images are not displayed by default. Subscribers first have to explicitly indicate that they want to see images.

The reason for this has to do with spamming. Spammers used to use images to see if email addresses were active. To prevent this, the loading of images is delayed in a number of email clients nowadays.

Many mobile phones, including the iPhone, do load images immediately, as do most webmail (Gmail, Outlook.com), and some desktop email clients (such as Apple Mail).

Images in your newsletter are always sent through our servers. We could also place images directly in an email. However, there are considerable disadvantages to doing so. First of all, some email clients will not display them (or will display them incorrectly). Secondly, including images in an email is a technique that is often used by spammers; the chance that an email will be considered spam is therefore much greater. Thirdly, the file size of the email will increase considerably.
