How do I personalise the subject of my newsletter?
When you create a campaign (Step 1), you can personalise the subject of your newsletter. To do so, click 'Personalise' on the right side of the bar where you enter your subject. Then select the subscriber variable you want to add to your newsletter.
When you send your newsletter, the corresponding is automatically mentioned in the subject line.
If there is no known value for a subscriber, the default value will appear. If there is no default value, nothing will appear.
Specify default value subscriber variable
On the page Subscribers → Settings → Fields, you can add a subscriber variable (field) to your list, and enter a default value.
You can also specify the subscriber variable's default value in the subject bar. You do this by adding a comma after the subscriber variable, and inserting a new value. For example: {{first name, user}}. The new value overrides the default value for that list. Using a comma thus overrules the default value.
Personalising: An example
Suppose you have the field (subscriber variable) 'First name' in your list. You want to include this subscriber variable in your subject line. For this, you include the subscriber variable {{first name}} in the subject: 'Dear {{first name}}, check out these offers!'.
Jacob Jennings will then see 'Dear Jacob, check out these offers!' at the top of his newsletter. If there is no known value (first name), Laposta includes the default value in your newsletter. If the default value is 'customer', Jacob will see: 'Dear customer, check out these offers!'. If there is no default value, Jacob will read: 'Dear , check out these offers!'. As the latter is not desirable, it is better to set a default value.
