Why do I see many opens for the same address?
Under Results → Campaigns → Opens you will find all the individual times your newsletter has been opened. (The opening is determined by loading an invisible image in the newsletter, see our documentation about the open ratio).
The most important data here is the 'first time' a newsletter is opened. That number is the basis for the open ratio.
It often happens that after the first time a newsletter was opened, a series of additional opens are registered. There may be a number of reasons for this:
- The email address is read by several people
- The email is forwarded
- After the first view, the email briefly appears on the screen a few more times, for example, because people first check their email quickly and then more extensively, or because they go through the email again to sort/archive it, or because they have closed the email client and then opened it again while your newsletter was still open.
Our software filters out opens and clicks that occur in very short succession.
Occasionally, a large number of opens are displayed (hundreds can occur). The reason for this is not always clear, but usually it concerns automatic actions of software that scans the mails for malicious content. It is not known to us why this should happen so often.
Moreover, we try to filter bots as much as possible.
