How do I create an automation?
You can easily create an automation by clicking 'New automation' on the Automations page. You then name your automation (which you can later change, by clicking on the name in the top left of the automation). You will be directed to the editor, where you can put the automation together.
1. Start event
You start an automation with at least one start event. For this, click 'Add start event'.
- Subscribe: starts when someone signs up to a list of your choice;
- Edit: starts when a field (of your choice) for a subscriber in a list (of your choice) changes;
- Open: starts when a campaign (of your choice) or an email from an automation is opened;
- Click: starts when someone clicks on a link (of your choice) in a campaign, or a link from an email from an automation;
- Date/time: starts when a certain date is reached in the Date-field (of your choice) of a list (of your choice).
If you set up multiple start events, this automation will start if only one of the starting conditions is met.
Read more about the different start events here.
2. Building blocks
Next, you can indicate what should happen when a start event occurs. For this, you can drag building blocks from the left side of the screen to the desired location in the editor. You can place as many building blocks as you want. Furthermore, you can create any combination with the building blocks mentioned below:
- Send email: indicate what newsletter should be sent at what time;
- Notification: receive or send a short message when a condition is met or a step in the automation is completed;
- Subscribe: automatically add a subscriber to a list;
- Unsubscribe: automatically remove a subscriber from a list;
- Change: automatically edit a subscriber's field in a list;
- Pause: put a pause in your automation between the previous and subsequent actions;
- Wait until...: wait until a certain time, or until a certain condition is met, before executing the next step in the automation;
- If/then: indicate how the automation should continue if a certain condition is or isn't met.
You can undo and recover every change you make (for instance, adding or removing a block, or adjusting your settings). For this, use the Undo and Redo buttons at the top of the page.
You can find more information about building blocks for an automation here.
3. Activate
An automation becomes active when you click 'Activate' in the Automations overview. You can deactivate any automation by clicking 'Pause'. If you have edited an existing automation, these changes only become active after you have clicked 'Activate changes'.
