Two-step verification (2FA)
Two-step verification, or two-factor authentication (2FA), is an extra step when logging in, making your account more secure.
Usually you log in with your login and password. If you have enabled two-step verification, as an additional step you will be asked to type in a code that appears on your cell phone. As a result, it is not enough for someone else to know your login and password; physical possession of your phone is now also required to access your account, which makes logging in a little more difficult, but a lot more secure.
Activate two-step verification
You can activate two-step verification under Login → Two-step verification.
Click Enable and follow the instructions on this page:
- Download and install a two-step verification app, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or Authy;
- Scan the qr code on the page;
- Enter the code from the app.
Once you have done this, the next time you log in you will be asked for the code from the app.
Important: backup code
When activating two-step verification, you will receive a backup code. Store this code well. This backup code can be used once for logging in instead of a code from the app. This may be necessary if you have lost your phone, for example.
If you used the backup code, two-step verification will be disabled. You will also be notified of this. Upon reactivation, you will receive a new backup code.
Disable two-step verification
If you no longer want to use two-step verification you can disable it under Login → Two-step verification.
