How do I create a permission campaign? (version 1)
If you decided to ask (some of) your subscribers for consent again, you can launch a permission campaign. To do this, take the following steps.
Prepare your list
To record which subscribers have given consent to receive newsletters, add an additional field to your list. To do this, go to Subscribers → (select list) → Settings → Fields. At the bottom, click 'Add new field'.
- As the field name, you enter 'Consent';
- The field type must be 'Multiple';
- With options Yes and No;
- One option selectable;
- Display: check;
- Click Save.
Prepare the form
Later, your subscribers should be able to check the field you added above. This is done with the edit. Go to Subscribers → (select list) → Enrich → Edit, and click 'Start'.
- On the first page, you can customise text and colours if necessary. Then proceed with Step 2.
- In Step 2, you will see all the fields in your list. Hide all of them except the email address and the consent field just added. To hide, click the field and click 'Hide this field in form' on the right side.
- Make the consent field mandatory. You can still change the text above the consent field here, for example to: 'Would you like to continue receiving newsletters?'.
- Click Save and proceed with Step 3. Here and in Step 4, you can still edit text or design if necessary.
Creating a campaign
- Create a new campaign and select the list above. In the campaign, give a (brief) description about how you are asking for consent to send newsletters again under GDPR.
- Include a link to the edit form. This can be a regular link in the text. To do this, click on a text box and select the text in which you want to include the link on the left side. Then click on the button 'Subscriber variables' above and choose 'edit my data'.
- It may be better to create a button. To do this, drag a button to the right location and edit the text, for example to: 'I want to continue receiving newsletters', or 'Edit preferences'. For the link to the button, enter: /tag/edit
- Send yourself a test email to see if everything is in order. It is important that your email address is in the relevant list.
Send the campaign
After you have performed the test you can send the campaign. Take into account that a large number of your subscribers will not subscribe again. Although this is unfortunate, at least the subscribers that remain are definitely interested in your message.
Send a reminder (or several)
People receive many of these kinds of emails. If they don't respond it doesn't always mean they don't want to. Therefore, it is good to repeat the campaign once or twice.
- To reach only those who have not yet given their consent, first create a segment. This is done under Subscribers → (Select list) → Segment. Create a new segment and choose to segment based on subscriber data.
- Select the field that deals with consent, and set it to be equal to 'No'. Save the segment.
- Now make a copy of your earlier campaign, and in Step 2, target it to the segment, rather than the entire list. Go through the following steps; when filling the newsletter, you can make some changes to the texts.
Save any emails with notifications of changes
Under Subscribers → Edit settings (for the relevant list) you can enter an email address where you will be notified of changes. You can save these emails so that you can later demonstrate that someone has given consent.
This information is also recorded within Laposta. You can see under the details of a subscriber when the data was edited. If this was right after your campaign then you know when the consent was given.
Remove subscribers that did not give consent
If you have asked for consent and not received it, then at some point you must remove the subscribers that have not given consent. To do this, you can view the segment you created earlier. If you set the number of subscribers displayed to 500, and check all of them at once in the top left corner, then you can use the button at the bottom of the list to delete the subscribers all at once.
