Why can you only have one free account per organisation?

If you want to send a campaign and receive the message ‘Sending campaigns not possible’, there is already a free account in use for your organisation:

Our records show that there is already a free account in use for your organisation. Only one free account is allowed per organisation. Please contact us for more information, quoting your account number:

If your organisation already has a paid account, the message will read: “Paid accounts cannot be combined with free accounts.” So having a free account alongside a paid account is not permitted either.

As long as this block is in place, your campaign will remain as it is and you will not be able to send anything. There is nothing in your own account that you can switch on to resolve this.

Why is there only one free account per organisation?

A free account is intended for one organisation, not for one department or one campaign. Without this rule, an organisation could bypass the limit of 2,000 subscribers by repeatedly creating a new free account. This condition is also listed under Limits of the free account.

Finding out which account your organisation already has

You cannot see in your own account which other account exists for your organisation. However, the helpdesk can see this and is allowed to tell you.

1

Look up your own account number

Go to Login → ‘My data’ and check under ‘Account number’. This number is also shown in the message on your screen.

2

Email the helpdesk

Send an email to helpdesk@laposta.nl with your account number and the name of your organisation.

3

Find out who manages the account

The helpdesk will reply with the account number and email address of the existing account. You can use this to check within your organisation who manages it. Often, it is a colleague who set it up in the past and has forgotten about it.

Continuing in a single account

The quickest way to resolve this is through the administrator of the existing account. They can add you as an extra user, allowing you to work with your own login details. Within a single account, you can manage multiple lists and different types of newsletters alongside each other, so a second account is rarely needed for this.

If you prefer to close the other account and continue with this one, first check what is in that other account. In Moving between Laposta accounts, you can read about what you can and cannot transfer to another account.

Multiple associations or foundations under one umbrella

For an umbrella organisation with independent associations or foundations that only share a domain name, the line is less clear-cut. Laposta assesses this on a case-by-case basis. Explain your situation to the helpdesk and include your account number. Do not assume that a second free account will be approved automatically.
