What are the starting points for an automation?

The starting moment determines when an automation begins to run for a subscriber. You can choose from nine starting moments:

Starting momentWhen does the automation start?
Specific momentOn a date and time set by you.
ManualAs soon as you add existing subscribers to the automation yourself.
Another automationFrom another automation, if you indicate here that this is allowed.
Date/timeWhen a date for a subscriber is reached.
SubscribeAs soon as there is a new subscription.
ClickAs soon as a subscriber clicks in a campaign or in an email from an automation.
Add labelAs soon as a subscriber receives a label.
OpenAs soon as a subscriber opens a campaign or an email from an automation.
EditAs soon as a subscriber’s field is modified.

Running once or multiple times

Whether a subscriber can go through an automation more than once varies per starting moment:

  • For three starting moments, you can choose this yourself in the ‘Executes’ field.
  • For two starting moments, you can choose between ‘May run multiple times’ and ‘Once per subscriber’.
  • For ‘Date/time’, you determine this by choosing between day-and-month and day-month-year.
  • For the remaining three starting moments, this is fixed.

You can read how this works in detail on the page for each starting moment.
