Subscribing a subscriber to another list

Drag this action to the point in your automation where the subscriber needs to be added to a second list. In the block, you can select the list to which the subscriber will be subscribed. You can read how to place and order actions in an automation in Start your first automation.

If the email address is already in the selected list, this step is skipped for that subscriber. An address cannot appear twice in the same list, so no duplicate subscriber is added and you will not receive an error in the automation. The details of the existing subscriber are not updated either. If you want to change those, use the edit action.

If you want to move the subscriber instead of copying them, place an unsubscribe block for the original list directly after this action. If you do not do this, the subscriber will also remain in the list on which the automation is running.

Which fields are copied across?

In addition to the email address, a list often contains extra fields, such as first name and last name. If the field name and data type of a field match in both lists, that value is also copied across to the new list. If that field name is missing in the new list, or if the field has a different data type there, the field is ignored.

Collecting registrations for an event

Suppose you want to build a list of subscribers who are coming to your event. You send a campaign containing a button with the text ‘Yes, I am attending’, which links to a page on your website.

Before you send the campaign, you can create an automation that starts when that button is clicked. With this action, everyone who clicks is automatically added to the new list. In the same automation, you can send them an email at once with a thank you note and extra information.
