Editing the hostname of your account

Your newsletters are sent under your name from the Laposta system. When subscribers request data from your newsletter, for instance by clicking a link, they connect to Laposta’s servers. A hostname is used for this connection.

You can think of the hostname as the name of the machine that handles communication between your computer and those of your subscribers on the one hand, and Laposta on the other. All links and images in your newsletter are routed through this name.

When your subscribers request data from your newsletter, they will see the following URL in their browser bar:

yourcompanyname.email-provider.nl

In this URL, your hostname is the part before email-provider.nl. This makes your company name or website visible in the link as well.

Your hostname is separate from your sender address, the email address your subscribers see as the sender, and from the authentication of your domain, which you configure in your DNS settings.

Editing your hostname

When you apply for your account, you are automatically assigned a hostname. Go to Settings → Hostname to view or edit it.

This is useful if the automatically generated hostname is not to your liking, or if you send newsletters for different subsidiaries from a single account. In that case, edit the hostname before you send a campaign.

A hostname must meet the following requirements:

  • 3 to 30 characters long
  • only letters, numbers and the hyphen (-)

If you edit your hostname, your previously sent newsletters will remain accessible to your subscribers under the old hostname.
