Why is your delivery blocked after an import?

Are you unable to send anything after importing a file, and are you seeing the message ‘Sending campaigns not possible’? This is not a technical issue. Laposta has blocked your sending capabilities due to doubts about the source of the email addresses.

You recently imported a subscriber file. This subscriber file may not comply with our rules. We have therefore blocked the sending of campaigns. By law, you are only allowed to send newsletters to existing customers and/or subscribers who have explicitly given permission in advance. If you send us an email explaining the source of your email addresses and the purpose of your newsletter, we will review your account again.

Having the block lifted

Email the helpdesk with your account number and answer two questions: where do these email addresses come from, and what are you going to send them? The more specific your answer, the faster the review. A description such as “members who have subscribed via the form on our website since 2019” or “an export from our previous newsletter software, where they had also subscribed” is sufficient. A single sentence stating that they are “just customers” is not enough.

Deleting the list does not automatically lift the block. The helpdesk does not assess whether the file is still there, but whether it is clear where the email addresses come from. Without an explanation, the block will remain in place, even if your account is empty.

Once your explanation has been received, the helpdesk will review your account again. If this shows that some of the email addresses have not given permission, you can send a re-permission campaign. This allows you to request that permission after all. You can then simply email the addresses that remain afterwards.

Why Laposta checks import files

Everything you send goes through the same mail servers as the newsletters of all other customers. A file containing email addresses of people who never asked for your newsletter results in complaints and bounces. This harms the sending reputation for everyone who sends emails via Laposta. The same reasoning applies to the global blocklist.

Furthermore, these are legal requirements, not just Laposta’s house rules. You can read about when you are and are not allowed to email someone in Legal bases for processing and emailing subscribers and Are you allowed to just send a newsletter to anyone?.

Before step 1 of every import, you must confirm on a screen that the email addresses comply with the rules. This screen includes examples of what is and is not allowed. Are you unsure whether you are allowed to email certain addresses? Check this before importing, because preventing a block is easier than having it lifted afterwards.
