Why were rows skipped during the import?

Once you have clicked ‘Start import’ when importing a file with subscribers, Laposta transfers the selected data from your Excel file into your list. In the status block in the sidebar, you can track the progress and see when the import is finished. Click ‘View results’ there.

In the final step of the import, you can see how many existing subscribers had their data updated and how many new subscribers have been added to your list. You will also see which rows from your file were not imported and why. There are four possible reasons:

  • Email address already existed: you want to add new subscribers, but this address is already in your list as active, unsubscribed (opted out) or cleaned (after a hard bounce). Laposta also deduplicates automatically: if an address appears multiple times in your file, it is only imported once.
  • Email address is new: you have chosen to only update the data of existing subscribers. Email addresses that were not yet in your list are then skipped.
  • No or invalid email address: empty rows and rows without an email address are skipped. The same applies to invalid email addresses, for example without an @ sign (johncompany.co.uk) or without an extension (john@company).
  • Role-based email address: these are email addresses that in practice are used by a system rather than a person.
