Reactivating an unsubscribed or cleaned subscriber
An email address can only appear once per list. When you add a subscriber, Laposta therefore checks not only your active subscribers, but also addresses that have previously unsubscribed or that have been cleaned after a hard bounce, six consecutive soft bounces or a spam complaint. If you receive a message stating that the address already exists even though you cannot see it among your active subscribers, the subscriber is most likely listed under one of the other two tabs.
Finding the subscriber
Go to Subscribers → your list → Browse and look up the address using the ‘Search within this list’ search bar above your subscriber table. This search function searches the ‘active’, ‘unsubscribed’ and ‘cleaned’ tabs simultaneously, so you can see the subscriber’s status straight away. You can also browse through the tabs yourself. To find out what falls under each tab, read Active, unsubscribed and cleaned subscribers.
Making the subscriber active again
How you activate a subscriber depends on the tab under which you find the address. You may only activate an unsubscribed subscriber if you have obtained permission to do so again. For a cleaned subscriber, it depends on whether the email address is still correct. A subscriber who has complained about your email, for example by using the spam button in Yahoo or Microsoft, cannot be reactivated with the same email address.
Unsubscribed subscriber
Cleaned, address is incorrect
Cleaned, address is correct
You can only reactivate an unsubscribed subscriber if this person has (once again) given you explicit permission to receive newsletters.
To do this, tick the box next to the subscriber on the ‘unsubscribed’ tab and select the option to activate them.
If you get the message while adding a single subscriber, it concerns that specific address. When importing a file, Laposta deduplicates the addresses automatically: existing unsubscribed and cleaned subscribers are recognised and will not be made active again by mistake.
Preferably work with a single main list. That way, you can see in one place whether each address is active, unsubscribed or cleaned, and you will come across this message less often.
Conditions for reactivating
If an address is genuinely incorrect, it will bounce again, and repeatedly emailing such addresses is bad for both your sender reputation and Laposta’s. Therefore, four rules apply to ‘Reactivate’:
- Once per address. If the address bounces again after you have activated it, in any list in your account, the subscriber will be cleaned again and you will no longer be able to activate the address this way.
- Once from the global blocklist. This applies to all Laposta users combined. If someone has already removed the address in this way and it ends up on the list again afterwards, no one can remove it themselves anymore.
- A maximum of 10 per day and 30 per month, per account.
- The right permissions. You need permission to add, edit or import subscribers, and the list must not be locked.
If you do not see the ‘Reactivate’ button, the subscriber has either made a complaint, the address has bounced again after being activated, or the daily or monthly limit has been reached. In the last two cases, the subscriber’s page will explain what is going on. If you are certain that the email address works, please contact the helpdesk at helpdesk@laposta.nl.
