Filling in your template in step 4
The template you chose in step 3 is now open in the drag & drop editor. Here, you can position blocks and fill them with headings, text, images, videos, buttons, a table of contents or social media. You can personalise the content, add links to files, websites and social media, and decide how everything looks on desktop and mobile.
Click ‘Info’ at the top of the screen. A detailed explanation of all the features in the editor will appear on the left side of the screen.
Building the newsletter
At the top of your newsletter is the preheader. In this block, you briefly mention something about the content on the left, while the link to the webversion is on the right. That is a good place to start.
Below that, you work block by block: you drag content blocks into place and fill in or edit the blocks that were already in the template. The quickest way to set up the design all at once is via Blocks & global design → Global design, rather than going block by block.
More about working in the editor:
- Creating a good newsletter in the drag & drop editor: how the editor works from start to finish.
- The content blocks in the drag & drop editor: which blocks are available and what you can configure for each block.
- Editing images: cropping or adjusting an inserted image.
- Formatting for desktop or mobile display: configuring the display separately for mobile phones and desktops.
The buttons at the top of the screen

With the button bar above your newsletter, you manage the campaign as a whole. On the right side of this bar, you can use two icons to switch between the display on a desktop screen and on a mobile phone. If Fresh view is enabled for your account, there will be an extra button between ‘Testmail’ and ‘Save as template’.
Use ‘Preview’ and ‘Testmail’ not only when you have finished formatting and adding content, but also as you go along.
If you save the result using ‘Save as template’, you will find it under ‘Saved templates’ in step 3 of your next campaign. To find out whether this overwrites the original or creates a new template, read Saving and copying an edited template.
Working with a custom template of the Joe type
If you use a custom template of the Joe type, you do not work in the drag & drop editor, but in a dedicated editor. In this editor, you place blocks between a fixed header and footer. You can read how this works in Using the Joe editor and, for a template that still uses the old editor, in Legacy Joe editor.
