Adding an image to your newsletter
To add an image, use the ‘Image’ or ‘Text with image’ block. Placing an image works the same way in both blocks.
Placing, linking and editing an image
Only the first step is required to place the image. Adding a link, entering alt text and editing the image are optional.
Select an image
On the left side of the screen, click the green ‘Select’ button and upload an image from your computer. This must be a file in png, jpg or gif format.
Add a link and alt text
In the field below the selected image, enter a link to allow your subscribers to click through the image to, for example, a product page on your website. If you enter alt text, your subscribers will see that text if the images have not yet loaded upon receipt.
Edit the image
Hover your mouse over the image in your newsletter and click ‘Edit image’ or ‘Edit’ at the top of the image. This opens the editor where you can crop, scale or adjust an image.
Pasting an image into a text box does not work, not even in the ‘Text with image’ block. Always place an image via ‘Select’.
The Text with image block
You can add one image per ‘Text with image’ block. It is always positioned at the top of the block, to the left or right of the text. You can choose the side via Text with image → Settings under ‘Image position’.

You cannot place an image directly in the middle of a text. That makes the reading order unclear and is rarely seen in newspapers or magazines either. However, there is a workaround: place several text with image blocks below one another, or work with columns and drag text and image blocks into them.
The Image block
In the ‘Image’ block, your image always fills the entire width of the block. If you want to display it smaller, place the image in a smaller block using the Columns block, or adjust the inner margin of the box via Image → Design → Box. The aspect ratio remains the same when doing so. You can adjust this ratio in the image editor: go to Edit → Transform and untick ‘Lock resolution’.
If you want to add a caption, you can place a separate text block below the image. In the design settings of that text block, reduce the distance to the image so that they fit together neatly.
Setting a background image
You can add a background image to the outside of your newsletter. First, click on the outside of the newsletter and on the left side of the screen, go to Blocks and global design → Global design (formerly General design) → Outside.
If you want the background image to continue into your blocks as well, remove the background colour of the centre section. Go to Blocks and global design → Global design → Middle section and click ‘Remove’ next to ‘Background color’. If you still do not see the image, check whether you previously set a background colour for the individual blocks.
When using a background image, always choose a background colour as well. Not every email client loads images immediately. In that case, the background colour will be visible first.
Some email clients cannot fix the position of an image. Therefore, a background image is always displayed as a repeating pattern.
