Which blocks are available in the editor?
When filling in your template (in step 4), eleven content blocks are available on the left in the ‘Blocks and global design’ panel on the ‘Blocks’ tab. You can drag them into your campaign or template: hover your mouse over the block, hold down the mouse button while moving to the right, and release it in the desired spot. You can place each block as many times as you like.
Editing and designing a block
When you click on a block in your newsletter, the ‘Content’ and ‘Design’ tabs appear on the left, along with ‘Settings’ for most blocks. Once you have finished editing, click ‘Save’, ‘Cancel’, or on the area outside your newsletter to return to the overview of blocks.
Under ‘Design’, you configure the formatting separately for desktop and mobile. In addition, you can configure three things for each block:
- whether you want to hide the block on desktop and/or mobile;
- whether you want to copy the design to all other blocks of this type, and whether to limit that copying to blocks inside or outside column sections (this works for every block type except for ‘Columns’ itself);
- whether you want to use this formatting as the default for new blocks of this type.
Columns
With a ‘Columns’ block, you divide a single row into two, three, or four columns, into which you can drag other content blocks. For the mobile view, you choose whether the columns are stacked vertically (responsive) or remain side by side.
Text
Under the ‘Content’ tab, you place a title and the text underneath it. You can turn the title into a link by typing or pasting a URL into the field below it, which you can recognise by the chain icon. You edit the text itself in the WYSIWYG editor. Besides the text and layout, you also manage links, personalisation with variables, and a text link to a file there.
Under ‘Design’, you configure the formatting of the title, the text, the box, and the exterior. The most convenient way to approach this is explained in Configuring text formatting in your newsletter: you start with the ‘Global design’ (formerly General formatting) and can then deviate from it per block.
Under ‘Settings’, you indicate whether the title of this block appears in the table of contents. If you do not add a ‘Content’ block to your newsletter, this setting makes no difference.
Text with image
Under the ‘Content’ tab, you upload an image, type or paste a link behind it, and enter an alt text. You edit the surrounding text in the same WYSIWYG editor as in the ‘Text’ block. If you want a title above the text, add a ‘Headline’ block. Under ‘Settings’, you determine whether the image is placed on the left or right side of the text.
If you do not want the text to wrap around the image, use a columns section containing a text block and an image block.
Headline
You adjust this standalone heading by clicking on the text and replacing it on the left under the ‘Content’ tab. In the field below that, you can turn it into a link. The formatting you choose under ‘Design’ applies only to ‘Headline’ blocks and not to the title within a text block. Under ‘Settings’, you indicate whether this title appears in the table of contents.
Line
Under ‘Design’, you can adjust the thickness, the colour, and the type of line, as well as the exterior of the block.
Image
Under the ‘Content’ tab, you upload an image, type or paste a link behind it, and enter an alt text. See: Adding an image for the file requirements and the ways to supply an image. Under ‘Design’, you only configure the margins of the box and the exterior.
If you want to adjust the image itself, hover your mouse over it in your newsletter and click ‘Edit image’. You can read about everything you can do with this in Editing and resizing an image.
Video
Under the ‘Content’ tab, you enter the link to a video on YouTube or Vimeo. Laposta places a preview there with a play button automatically overlaid on it. You can also add an alt text to that generated image. The full procedure is explained in Adding a video. Under ‘Design’, you only configure the margins of the box and the exterior.
Button
Under the ‘Content’ tab, you place the text for the button and the link to a page or a file. Under ‘Design’, you determine the size, colour, border, and formatting of the button, among other things. Under ‘Settings’, you choose the position of the button.
Content
The ‘Content’ block automatically places a table of contents of all titles you have entered in a text block or a headline. If you do not want to show a title, go to the block containing that title, open the ‘Settings’ tab on the left, and select ‘Hide from table of contents’. Under ‘Design’, you determine the formatting of the text, the box, and the exterior.
Social media
With the ‘Social media’ block, you place icons, and optional text, that link to your own social media accounts. This allows you to invite the recipients of your newsletter to follow you. Under the ‘Content’ tab, you add a platform using ‘Add medium’ and enter the corresponding URL and text via the ‘Show details’ link. You can choose from 18 social media platforms.
Share
With the ‘Share’ block, you let the recipient share the webversion of your newsletter, or another URL, on their own social media. A link for this is automatically generated in your newsletter. How to configure this block is explained in Having your subscribers share your newsletter.
