Why should you avoid literal links in your newsletter?

Do not write ‘visit www.mysite.co.uk’ or ‘Register at https://mysite.co.uk/registration.html’ in a newsletter. Writing out a full web address in your text increases the chance that your newsletter will be flagged as phishing.

When sending, Laposta replaces the underlying link with a link that first routes the visitor through Laposta’s servers. This is how the click is measured. After measuring the click, Laposta immediately redirects the visitor to the original link.

As a result, the displayed link and the actual link no longer match. Security software often sees this as a phishing attempt, which means recipients of your newsletter may receive a warning in their email client.

Instead of ‘visit www.mysite.co.uk’, use plain text such as ‘visit the website’. You can then select that text and enter the URL to turn it into a clickable link.

You can read how to do this in Placing a link in your newsletter. Choose link text that immediately tells the reader where the link goes, including for a ‘Read more’ link below an article.
