How do you come up with topics for your newsletter?

If you are struggling to come up with topics, it helps to have a few set angles on hand. If you are not looking for content ideas, but rather the line your subscriber sees in their inbox, please read Writing a subject line.

Coming up with topics for your newsletter

Even if you send newsletters on a regular schedule, these five angles will give you fresh ideas time and again:

AngleIdeas to consider
Share what you have achievedA milestone, a completed project or a new colleague. A look behind the scenes makes your organisation recognisable and personal.
Tie in with current eventsPublic holidays, seasons or developments in your industry. Whatever is happening right now is immediately relevant to your reader.
Zoom in on a single detailHighlight a single product, tell the story behind a service or answer a frequently asked question. This is often more interesting than a general overview.
Share your knowledgeUseful tips, a step-by-step guide or a how-to that solves a problem for your reader. This helps you build trust.
Ask for a responseLet your readers share their opinion, vote on a new product or tell you which topics they would like to see covered.

If you have a lot to share, do not put the full text in your newsletter. A short, engaging introduction with a button or link to the full article on your website keeps the newsletter clear and drives traffic to your website.

If you are still stuck, the helpdesk (helpdesk@laposta.nl) will be happy to help you brainstorm about the content of your newsletter.

If you already have a draft, you can use Fresh view in step 4 of the editor. You can submit your campaign there and within a few minutes you will receive an analysis with practical tips on the design, content and persuasiveness.
