Entering the basic details in step 1

Once you have clicked ‘Create new campaign’, you will arrive at the first of the six steps. Here you enter a name by which you can recognise this campaign in your account, and you set what your subscribers will see in their inbox before they open your newsletter.

Filling in the fields

FieldWhat you fill in
Campaign nameA working name for internal use. This allows you to find this campaign in your overviews and statistics. Your subscribers will not see this name.
Sender (name)The name that your subscribers see as the sender in their email client, usually the name of your organisation. You can enter a name here yourself.
Sender (email)The address the email appears to come from. Here you can choose from the sender addresses in your account.
Reply toThe address where a reply from a subscriber goes to. This may be the same as the sender address, but you can also have replies sent directly to the right person.
SubjectThe line that your subscribers see first of your email. You can personalise it and add an emoticon to it. On the right-hand side of the field, the character count is tracked.
PreviewtextThe extra line that many email clients display next to or below the subject. You can also personalise this text and add emoticons to it. See: Filling in the preview text.
Connect Google AnalyticsTick this box if you work with Google Analytics. In your website’s statistics, you will then see in a separate report how much traffic came in via your newsletter.

Your newsletter is sent out via Laposta’s servers, but to your subscribers it should look as if it comes directly from your own organisation. Together, the sender name and sender address determine whether someone recognises you in a full inbox, so choose them carefully. When sent, a link to the sender address is automatically placed behind the sender name.

Choose your subject carefully as well. Because of a poor subject, your newsletter can even get caught in a spam filter. Also read the tips for a good subject.

For a few users, the links to their own website no longer work properly once Google Analytics is connected: subscribers then end up on the homepage instead of on the underlying page. Therefore, always check the links in your newsletter, using a preview or a testmail in step 4 or the check in step 5.

How your subscriber sees it in their inbox

The sender name, subject and previewtext come together in a single line in the inbox. In the completed screen above, ‘Helpdesk van Laposta’ is entered as the sender name, ‘Zo maak je in zes stappen een campagne in Laposta’ as the subject and ‘Stap-voor-stap handleiding voor {{voornaam}}’ as the previewtext. For a subscriber with the first name John, this results in the following line in Gmail:

Choosing a different campaign type

If you decide not to create a regular campaign after all, click the link ‘Choose a different campaign type’, directly below the heading ‘1. Enter basics’. This allows you to still opt for a birthday campaign or for importing an existing newsletter. From there, you can also go back to the regular campaign.

Continue to step 2

At the bottom of the screen, click ‘Save and to Step 2’. In Step 2: Selecting recipients, you can tick which lists and segments will receive the newsletter. You can always go back to step 1 to change something.
